What do I do if my child has a problem at school? |
Normally the first point of contact for you is the form tutor. You can leave a message at the switch board or write a note in the planner. If the form tutor is unable to resolve the problem then you can speak to the appropriate Phase Leader. if the problem persists you can then ask to speak the SMT manager for that year group. |

What do I do if my child has a problem with a particular subject? |
The first person you should contact is the subject teacher, explain what the difficulty is and ask for suggestions to resolve the problem. The next point of reference is the Head of Faculty. Again contact can be made through the school switchboard or via a note in the planner. |

What to I do if my child is ill? |
If your child is too ill to come to school please telephone the Attendance Officer on 020 8940 6954 to let us know. If we don't hear from you and your child is not in school we will try to phone you. When your child returns to school please write a note to the tutor to explain the absence. |

If my child is late for school what should he or she do? |
If your child is late for school before the end of registration (8:45 am) they should go straight to their form tutor or go to the assembly hall on assembly days and register with their tutor. If they arrive after registration they should see the Attendance Officer and get a late slip. This has to be taken to the first lesson and then given to the tutor during afternoon registration. You should be aware that if your child is later than half an hour after registration it will be counted as unauthorised absence or truancy unless you provide a note explaining the lateness. |

If my child is ill or has an accident in school what happens? |
If your child is taken ill in school a member of staff will summon the welfare assistant. She will administer first aid but will not give any medication unless permission has been given by parents. If it is clear that the child cannot continue in school you will phoned and asked to come and take your child home. If your child has an accident you will be contacted so that he or she can be taken to the doctor. In more serious circumstances an ambulance will be called and the child will be taken to hospital. A member of staff will accompany the child and you will be contacted and told which hospital he or she has been taken to.

What do I do if I want to make a complaint? |
If you have a concern in the first instance you should contact the member of staff directly. If you are still not satisfied contact either the Phase Leader or the Head of Faculty. Where your concern is of a private or more serious nature please ask to speak to one of the Assistant Headteachers or one of the Deputy Headteachers. |

What are the times of the school day? |
The school day starts at 8:30 am when students go either to registration or to assembly. There are two lessons before break which is from 10:45 to 11:05 am. After break there are another two lessons then lunch which is from 1:05 pm to 1:55 pm. In the afternoon there is a registration at 1:55 before the final lesson of the day commences at 2.00pm. School finishes at 3:00 pm. During the GCSE examination period in the Summer the school day changes slightly to accommodate examination starts. What should I do if I think my child is being bullied? |
The school takes any incidents of bullying very seriously. Let the tutor know immediately you have any concerns and if the problem continues contact the Phase Leader. Talk to your child about what is happening and give them assurance that the school has been contacted and that action will be taken. |

What should my child do if they are unhappy about their option choices? |
In the first instance the student should talk to the teacher and then to the Head of Faculty. If no resolution can be found then you should make an appointment to see the Deputy Headteacher, Curriculum and Standards who is responsible for student timetables. You should be aware that we only make changes to option choices in very exceptional circumstances. |

Can I take my child out of school to go on holiday? |
The school discourages any absence from school because of the impact on learning. Holidays taken during term time will not be authorised by the school and will show as unauthorised absence on the students' record. Any period in excess of 10 days will be treated as unauthorised absence. |

Where can I get school uniform? |
There is shop in school that supplies school uniform: it is open every Thursday lunchtime 1-2pm |

What should I do if my child can't wear school uniform for some reason? |
If the uniform is unavailable for some reason you must write a note to the tutor explaining the circumstances. We are prepared to accept short term lapses in uniform but we will not accept long term avoidance or wearing uniform. If there are problems with shoes these must be rectified as soon as possible. Long term problems with shoes must be supported by a doctor's note. |

What should I do if my child had a dentist or medical appointment? |
If you know in advance send a note to the tutor either via a letter or in the planner. In emergency circumstances telephone the school and send a note in with your child when he or she returns to school. |

What should I do if my child needs to take medicine in school? |
Write to the School Welfare Assistant, explaining the circumstances and the exact details of how and when the medicine needs to be administered. If your child has particular needs or allergies you must make us aware of these. |

I think I am entitled to free school meals. What should I do? |
You need to write to you local authority explaining the circumstances. Free school meals are means tested and you will be asked to disclose details of your income. Once approved the name of your child will given to the school and a free meal ticket will be issued each day. |

I think my child has special educational needs what should I do? |
The school has a very strong special needs department. You should ask for an appointment to see the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator for the school. |

How much homework should my child get? |
Your child will be set homework each night. The details of the homework can be found in the planner. If your child tells you that he or she does not have any homework contact the form tutor to ascertain why. You should expect your child to spend between 40 minutes to 90 minutes on homework in the lower school (years 7 to 9) and between 90 minutes to 150 minutes in the upper school (years 10 & 11) Details of the homework timetable can be found in the curriculum packs issued at the start of the academic year. |
