Specialised teachers deliver the Science National Curriculum
to KS3 using the Spectrum Science scheme (Resources are differentiated to
meet all pupils' needs and emphasis is put on students having "hands-on" experience
in planning and carrying out practical work).
Our students follow CASE intervention lessons in years 7 and 8 and this runs
concurrently with the curriculum. CASE, Cognitive Acceleration through Science
Education, also called "Thinking Science", offers students the opportunity
to learn and practice problem solving skills whilst working as part of a small
group.
The majority of students follow a double award GCSE in science in years 10
and 11 but we also offer the Triple Award Separate Sciences for our science
enthusiasts and this award will gain students GCSE grades in Biology, Chemistry
and Physics.
We plan into our curriculum visits to places of scientific interest such as
the Natural History and Science Museums in London and the Royal Institution.
Students have also visited the Tomorrow’s World Roadshow and taken part
in events at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington.
