“The Houses have been so good: they have made us really focussed on getting involved everywhere in the school” - Year 9 Student

At Grey Court School we have introduced a House System to motivate and raise the level of healthy competition among our school community. The House system was the brainchild of our Collegium (school council) and has been entirely led by our pupils.

We have four Houses at Grey Court: Aztec, Roman, Trojan and Spartan. These House names were entered and voted for by our pupils in the spirit of democracy and pupil voice that we value so highly for our young people.

The House System has been a roaring success, with every pupil in every year really raising their level of participation to try and make sure that their House wins the House Cup come July. There has also been some real competition among the staff.

Some of the successful House events have been.

  • House football, basketball, netball and athletics tournaments.
  • Staff 5-a-side football tournament
  • University Challenge
  • House Masterchef
  • House Enterprise Challenge
  • Sports Day

Most importantly, House points are awarded for work and effort in the classroom. In pupils' planners they gain house points for effort, attainment and conduct. It is this element that ensures the winning House at the end of the year.

Below is the current standing for the Houses Summer Term 2012:

Position House
1st Spartan
2nd Aztec
3rd Trojan
4th Roman
