Restorative school

We are a restorative school. At the heart of this belief is the principle that every member of our community is valued and respected, and that when conflicts arise we can resolve them through listening and supporting each other. We are a positive school and are optimistic that relationships can be repaired and that we can learn from our mistakes and change our future behaviour.

This helps with my learning because it makes me feel comfortable and know that I can trust those around me.

Reflection

A restorative approach encourages both sides to reflect on their behaviour and to work towards a mutually acceptable resolution. We allow time and space for everyone involved to express how they have been made to feel by each other’s actions. The aim is not to blame and reprimand but to support individuals to understand the effect of their actions.

Moving forward

A key factor of a restorative approach is to be non judgemental so that people can reflect on their behaviour openly and honestly, and move on to do the right thing. We encourage people to share how they have been impacted by the  actions of others, with the aim of understanding, forgiving and finding a positive way forward.

Stronger together

We firmly believe that listening, supporting and understanding makes us a stronger community where everyone is valued and appreciated, and where we all work to create a safe, harmonious and positive environment to learn and to work.

It’s easier to sort things out because you can talk calmly without flipping out.
