Overview

Drama complements most other academic subjects as it develops transferable skills in communication, collaboration and leadership. Students are encouraged to explore different lives and scenarios and are guided towards evaluation and self expression. By working on their creative skills in technical support, costume, lighting and design, students build an understanding of teamwork and supporting a joint end goal.

Facilities

We have a Black Box style drama studio which is fully equipped for lighting and sound systems. Large scale drama productions are held in our main hall which has a full size stage.

Key Stage 3

Students begin to develop their understanding of theory and the technical elements of drama. Through improvisation and workshops they explore differing techniques and methods of analysis. They are encouraged to devise their own pieces and to appreciate the influence of drama on contemporary life.

Key Stage 4

For students who pursue Drama at GCSE level there is a move towards greater independence of thought and production. They deepen their knowledge and understanding of drama and theatre through studying set plays in detail and analysing live productions. Students produce their own pieces, participating through performance or design, and then evaluate their own involvement and the overall production.
