Overview
Learning a new language brings people and cultures closer together. It allows for an exchange of knowledge and an appreciation of different values, beliefs and norms. At Grey Court we offer A levels in French and Spanish. By the end of the course students are fluent in their chosen language, being able to speak, read and write at a high level. The course includes studies of the culture and politics of Francophone/Hispanic society to gain a deeper appreciation of the language.
Facilities
Language A levels are taught in the purpose-built sixth form centre by specialist language teachers.
Growth
A level language courses allow students to explore topics in far greater depth than at GCSE. Learners engage with more mature and thought-provoking themes such as current social issues, cultural heritage and the role of women in society. Students are encouraged to express their opinions with confidence and conviction, while developing the ability to analyse and discuss complex ideas in the target language. Students also conduct independent research and read widely around their chosen topics to deepen their understanding and broaden their cultural awareness.
Enrichment
Students are encouraged to form clubs such as sport, film, music and dance, where they can practise their language skills.
Careers
Languages give students a competitive edge and are valued in careers such as law, transport, tourism, sales and international corporations.
