Entry requirements

  • 5 GCSEs at grade 9-5 including maths and English
  • GCSE art minimum grade 5.

Overview

Art and creativity are essential to the human experience. An understanding of the art of other people and cultures helps us understand ourselves, our own history and our global connectivity. Grey Court’s A level artists are encouraged to develop their individual artistic voice within this context and to experiment, explore and challenge their creativity.

Facilities

Lessons are delivered in our purpose-built sixth form art studio. Our open-door policy invites students to drop in whenever they can and the walls of the sixth form block proudly display student artwork all year round. Art A level is taught by specialist art teachers.

Growth

Art A level is about exploring and deepening an artistic voice. Students are required to produce practical work, undertake reflective visual research and complete an in-depth project. The emphasis during A level is on independent study and our artists are encouraged to visit galleries and exhibitions to expand their knowledge of artistic genres and forms. This breadth of knowledge informs the final portfolio which students produce by the end of the course.

Enrichment

Students have plentiful opportunities to participate in exhibitions and competitions. We showcase work in national galleries and host an annual exhibition of A level artwork.

Careers

The skills gained during A level art may be applied in a variety of fields which welcome creativity and independent thinking, such as: advertising, architecture, graphic and product design, and theatre work.
