Overview

Drama encourages students to be creative and to explore and understand how we communicate. These skills are highly valued in the workplace, demonstrating self awareness and collaborative working. The A level course develops skills in acting, designing and interpreting. There are opportunities to review and critique live theatre and to create unique performances.

Facilities

The sixth form has a dedicated black-box style drama studio with integrated lighting and sound systems. Drama and theatre A level is taught by specialist drama teachers.

Growth

Students are guided in textual and critical analysis and continue to build their interest in the history of drama, theatrical forms and conventions. They are expected to analyse and critically deconstruct the work studied, created and witnessed.

Enrichment

We encourage our students to visit theatres, meet actors and explore the backstage environment. We organise trips and workshops, participate in festivals and put on performances. External speakers are invited to offer professional advice and guidance, and students are coached for entry to drama school.

Careers

An A level in Drama and theatre opens doors to a variety of careers including working in theatre, television, film and video. It has also proved invaluable in the journalistic, teaching and legal professions.
