Entry requirements
- 5 GCSEs at grade 9-5 including maths and English
- GCSE history minimum grade 6.
Overview
The study of the past enables us to understand the present and prepare for the future. A historical perspective is invaluable as a guiding principle for how societies, communities and nations conduct themselves. History A level is unique in the combination of skills it develops in students, including research, analysis, debate and challenge. History A level at Grey Court focuses on the Tudors, the American Dream (1945-1980) and the causes of the Russian Revolution for coursework. Students deepen their knowledge of a topic, and strengthen their research skills, through completing a personal project.
Facilities
History A level is taught in small groups in the purpose-built sixth form block, by specialist history teachers.
Growth
Compared to the GCSE, the history A level places a greater demand on independent work and research. Students are expected to undertake large levels of background reading to inform their knowledge of the subject.
Enrichment
Students are invited to attend university lectures and talks by guest speakers. We organise visits to places of historical interest and to exhibitions and external events.
Careers
The skills of analysis, interpretation and evaluation are highly valuable in careers such as journalism, law, research and teaching.
