Overview

Psychology is the study of the mind and of behaviour. It leads to an understanding of why individuals, groups and societies think and behave as they do. It explores some of the most pressing concerns of our times such as: why individuals conform to societal pressure, how childhood experiences affect the adults we become, why prisons are violent places, and the causes of cognitive disorders.

Facilities

Psychology A level is taught in the purpose-built sixth form centre.

Growth

This is a new subject for most students and they are expected to develop skills in independent learning. In particular, there is a focus on debate, discussion and methodological research.

Enrichment

We arrange a number of work-related placements, talks and seminars, and encourage students to participate in debates and discussions.

Careers

Psychology straddles the worlds of science and humanities. Critical thinking, analytical report writing and problem-solving are highly sought-after skills in fields such as criminology, clinical practice, human resources, law and public relations.
