Overview
Creative and technical ability are important for photography A level. Students learn how to see and record with a camera and express ideas through the photographic medium. Whilst the course is mostly practical, there is also a requirement to document progress and research in sketchbooks and work journals. Various genres of photography are studied, including portrait, still-life, landscape and documentary. Students work in both digital and analogue.
Facilities
The sixth form centre has a digital media suite, a well-resourced darkroom and an art studio.
Growth
Students are expected to complete at least five hours of independent work per week. They are guided in preparing a portfolio and are advised if working on unusual or challenging projects.
Enrichment
We organise visits to galleries and exhibitions and arrange for students to attend talks and discussions. Students receive one-to-one, personalised teaching.
Careers
Photography skills are called on in many walks of life, from photojournalism to fashion, magazines, advertising, forensics and retail.
