Overview
The level 3 diploma in criminology is equivalent to one A level and is taught over two years. Criminology is the scientific study of crime and criminals. It examines why crime is committed, focusing on biological, psychological and sociological explanations. Students look at how the criminal justice system works and how crime leads to policy change.
Facilities
Criminology is taught in the purpose-built sixth form centre.
Growth
Students gain an understanding of different types of crime, influences on perceptions of crime, why people commit crime and why some crimes are unreported.
Enrichment
Students attend work-related placements and visits to see the subject in action in the real world.
Careers
Criminology can lead to careers in detective work, cybersecurity and the probation service. It can also be used in research, policy and journalism.
