Our curriculum

The Grey Court curriculum aims to be inspirational and aspirational, meeting the needs of a diverse range of learners.

Our curriculum is underpinned by an appreciation of how race, class, sex, gender, sexual orientation, size, religion, or the challenges of disability or disadvantage impact on learning. We are determined that none of these factors will be a handicap to each child’s individual development.

Learning at our school takes place within a culture of respect for others and a celebration of diversity. We offer all students the opportunity to develop their talents to the maximum and to broaden and deepen their areas of interest through a wide range of extra curricular experiences.

Key Stage 3

Year 7 - Students in year 7 are largely taught within their mixed ability tutor groups, other than for English and maths, where they are taught in attainment sets from the second term.

Year 8 - Students in year 8 are largely taught within mixed ability groups, other than for English, maths and science, where they are taught in attainment sets.

Year 9 - Students in year 9 are largely taught within mixed ability groups, other than for English, maths and science, where they are taught in attainment sets. Year 9 is also the year when students decide which subjects they wish to continue in Key Stage 4 and on towards GCSE. Our experienced staff are on hand to provide advice and guidance along every step of the way to help ensure that students make the best choices for their future.

* Sets are reviewed regularly throughout Key Stage 3 to ensure that students are placed in the most appropriate groups for their learning.

Key Stage 4

Year 10 - Year 10 is the start of the GCSE and BTEC courses. Students take a combination of core subjects and optional subjects chosen at the end of year 9. Most subjects are taught within mixed ability groups, other than for English, maths and science where students are taught in attainment sets. Students also take a number of additional subjects which are non examined but mandatory until the end of year 11.

Year 11 - Students complete their GCSE and BTEC courses, ending with public exams at the end of year 11. They continue the core, optional and additional subjects begun in year 10. Some students also have the option of taking the Level 2 Certificate in Further Mathematics.
