Aspirations programme

We run a successful aspirations programme with our partner school, King’s College Wimbledon. The aim of the programme is to raise the aspirations and achievements of students who would benefit from exposure to wider opportunities for learning.

A select group of students takes part in a series of events designed to stretch their horizons and options for the future. They are taken on visits to universities and cultural sites, attend workshops, and receive individual coaching and subject specific assistance.

Below is a flavour of events offered by the aspirations programme:

  • inspirational talks on becoming leaders of the future

  • university and careers planning advice

  • workshops in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects

  • maths tuition

  • rugby coaching

  • specialist tuition for students aiming for GCSE grades 9-7

  • drama workshops at the Globe theatre

  • lessons in ancient Greek, geography and Mandarin.

I went to see the Globe theatre’s production of Macbeth as part of the King’s programme. It really helped me understand the play, which we are studying in English. Visiting King’s school was also really interesting and I made lots of new friends there.

Year 8 aspirations students attend a weekly course in philosophy and economics. This is a joint initiative developed and delivered by Grey Court and King’s sixth form students for their younger peers.

We are immensely proud of our joint venture with King’s which highlights Grey Court’s ethos of supporting and stretching all our students.
