Inclusion (SEND)

At Grey Court we believe that every child has the right to full and equal access to the curriculum. Where a student has a specific difficulty accessing the curriculum, due to additional educational needs, we put measures in place to support that student as fully as possible. This ethos underpins all of our curriculum activities as well as the general life of the school.

Equal access

Inclusion is a whole school agenda. Our inclusion policy aims to ensure that all students are included in mainstream education and have equal access to the curriculum. Our driving force is that every student, regardless of sex, gender, attainment, special needs, race, disability, social/cultural background or sexual orientation is included in our learning community. We give all students the opportunity to fulfil their full potential, both as learners and as individuals, and to have an outstanding experience at Grey Court School.

Student support centre

Our specialist learning and student support centre is based in Newman House. Students are welcomed here for small group work to support their mainstream learning. Our latest Ofsted inspection in 2018 found that the effectiveness of our care, guidance and support was outstanding.

Individual support

Learning mentors help students with differentiated programmes and help promote their academic progress. There is small group work on literacy and numeracy and support for students who have English as an additional language.

Our learning support assistants are on hand to provide individual support in the classroom to enable students to access mainstream education. They also run pre- teaching sessions for students with education, health and care plans (EHCP) and small group interventions which include handwriting workshops, spelling groups, touch typing, homework club, and exam time-management sessions.

Our speech and language therapist provides targeted support for students with language and communication needs.
