Why choose us?

Our sixth form offers more structure than a college, allowing for a more steady, staggered transition from GCSE to post 16 learning. Each student has timetabled, supervised study periods where they  receive additional encouragement and support with their work.

We also offer students a personalised mentor programme. Each student is part of a small group with a dedicated and experienced sixth form mentor who helps guide them through the sixth form and into adult life. It is an opportunity to develop their skills in debating and discussion, and provides a space for students to engage in more creative thinking and expression. Sixth formers see their mentor every day and in addition have regular one-to-one academic mentoring meetings where an individual education plan is drawn up for each person.

Outstanding results

We consistently outperform local and national schools in terms of our results, with 71% of students achieving A* to B grades in 2023.

Our site

Our purpose built sixth form centre contains six ICT rooms, 11 light-filled classrooms, three spacious science laboratories, seminar rooms, a multi-media Mac suite and innovative drama and art studio spaces.

Situated in 22 acres of tree lined grounds, our first class sports facilities include immaculately maintained football and rugby pitches, two sports halls and access to Ham tennis club with its own clubhouse. As our school lies in the centre of historic Ham village, we benefit from being only a five minute bike ride from Richmond Park. In addition, we are thirty minutes - by public transport - from the centre of London so our students have the advantage of this international city’s considerable cultural and economic riches.

Oxbridge

We expect our students to gain places at the country's leading universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. Grey Court has a significant network of Oxbridge alumni whose expertise we draw upon. We offer a personal Oxbridge mentor and a tailored Oxbridge programme for those intending to apply. We work closely with academics from Churchill College, Cambridge, and Clare College, Oxford, to ensure our students compete on an equal footing with their independent school counterparts.

Lead science and maths school

A significant proportion of our sixth formers study mathematics and up to three sciences at A level. We know these students are highly valued by employers and have cultivated links with the Crick Institute and the National Physical Laboratory. Sixth formers benefit from a dedicated science mentor to help them develop their practical and theoretical skill-set, which they will need to succeed in their appliance of science. They also receive guided tutorials for their applications to university science summer schools as well as medical and veterinary courses.

Order, structure, creativity

We provide students with the freedom to think and create within the organised structure of a school day. Within this structure there is a great deal of flexibility with students being given time to work independently when they are not in formal lessons.

During their first term with us students work towards gaining their A level licence. This is awarded to those with an excellent record of attendance and punctuality and who have developed their A level study skills. These students' work habits are rewarded when they are given the option to leave the school site to work at home or in the local library, when they do not have timetabled lessons. The A level licence is highly valued by our students as they know that this is a signifier of their strong academic potential.
